Most of the wineries we visit belong to
the Santa Cruz Mountains Appellation (close to San Jose, CA), an
area with a soil and climate that closely resemble the Burgundy
region in France. The northeasterly side, from Woodside to Saratoga,
was prized by early winemaker Paul Masson, who named the section,
"chaine d'or", meaning, chain of gold.
We also visit some excellent wineries in
the Santa Clara Valley (especially the Gilroy area), California's
oldest continuously-producing winegrowing region. This area was
growing grapes for the Missions before the Napa area was developed,
and was known for its wonderfully rich soil and ideal climate.
And of course, we conduct Napa and Sonoma
wine tours, too!
Some of the
wineries we visit have restricted hours, or are not open to the
public, except for special events. South Bay Wine Tours has special
access to many wineries, with certain restrictions. (Restrictions
may include a minimum or maximum-sized group, a more advanced booking,
etc. Please call for specific details on the wineries you are interested
in)
